Creating viable partnerships with people and organizations within a community is central in our effort to foster community building.
1985-86, NID worked with the White House, Congress and Washington DC based industry and government agencies to create the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program as a part of the 1986 Tax Act and introduced the concept of the New Markets Tax Credit Program that was finally added to the tax code in 2000.
1987-89, NID worked with NAREB, HUD, Congress, NAR and the NAACP to develop, pass and implement the Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP), the first fair housing legislation passed since the 1968 Fair Housing Act. Managed the NAREB/HUD/Department of Commerce-Economic Development Program, which was named by HUD and DOC as the most productive and efficient grant program in their combined portfolio’s of grant programs to minority organizations for FY 1989. Acknowledged by the U. S. Senate and House in work to pass the Steward B. McKinney Homeless Act and Re-write of the HUD/FHA 203-k Acquisition Rehabilitation program, both considered milestone urban economic and social development programs.
1989-91, NID worked with DC based industry groups, federal agencies and Congress to add “minority inclusion” policies to the Financial Institution Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) and HUD, NAR, the National Association of Mortgage Bankers and Home Builders to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Federal Housing Enterprise Safety and Soundness Act of 1992-the then new regulator of Fannie and Freddie.
1991-95, NID played a leading role in designing and implementing the NID/FDIC/RTC Affordable Housing Program-creating over 86,000 units of affordable single and multi-family housing. The NID-Housing Counseling Program, the NID-Mortgage Origination Program, becoming a HUD/FHA “Big Eagle” national lender focusing on the FHA 203-k program and the Citibank/NID $500.00 Down Payment First-time Homebuyer program. Helped pass legislation allowing Fannie and Freddie to decrease their down payment requirements from 5 to 3% and implement safe and sound “relaxed” underwriting standards for urban and minority home buyers.
1996-97, NID completed the development of the Chase/Fannie Mae/NAREB $100mil 3% down-payment and “alternative credit” first-time home buyer program.
1997-99, NID developed the NAREB/HUD “One America” program, designed to fully enforce fair housing laws and decrease racial and community tensions in the housing market.
1999-2001, NID obtained the approval of NID-HCA as the only real estate professional based network to participate in the HUD National Intermediary Housing Counseling Program. That exclusive status remains today and NID-HCA is the largest minority organization in the program today. NID hosted a White House Conference on “Urban Community Social and Economic Development” with Senior White House staff, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Mortgage Bankers Association, HUD, Congressional banking committee staff members and urban economist participating. Developed the NAREB/HUD “One America” program, designed to fully enforce fair housing laws and decrease racial and community tensions in the housing market.
2001-03, NID-HCA partnered with NAREB and HUD to implement the Bush 11 administration “Community Tensions” program.
2003-05, NID-HCA concentrated on training 400 real estate professionals free of charge to become certified housing counselors.
2005-Present, NID-HCA broke ground on a 300,000 square foot urban infill mixed use development in Altadena, CA anchored by a 35,000 square foot supermarket, Bank of America and Magic Johnson Fitness Center.
2008-Present NID-HCA, received funding from the congressionally funded National Foreclosure Mitigation Program to prevent foreclosures.
